D100 Dungeon Part 3

Back into The Perilous Oubliette of the Borderlands. *

Looking to loot 3 Weapons from monsters, I found lots of useful stuff including two magic scrolls (which I might be able to cast – need to research this.) I finally emerged wielding a Mighty Claymore ( a damn sight better than the weedy club I took in with me), plus other weapons and a backpack of goodies (Giant Rat parts and Giant Ant parts.) All of these are worth gp, but also (once I get to the Witchery rules in Book 2) can be used to create brews and potions.

I also came out with 6 Health remaining (out of 20), 3 oil and 5 food. You don’t heal automatically; you have to pay for everything.**

City of Knight’s Hold

I have started playing around with World Builder (Book 6) and set up the starting hexes but not going any further at the moment. ***

So, Rayven needs to do some actions.

1) Refresh Tracks – Lose all keys and levers and reset time track

2) Sell stuff – Sell the superior tinderbox I found plus all of the monster parts. I’ve kept the two magic scrolls because I might be able to cast them. Added to my reward for the Quest and cash in hand, I have 1132 gp. Sell the club as well and I have 1182 gp – I’m RICH!

Now for the spending –

Heal 14 HP x 20 gp = 280 gp

Repair claymore = 94 gp

Repair belt = 57 gp

Buy more oil x 17 x 15 gp = 255 gp ****

Buy more food x 3 x 10 gp = 30 gp

Buy Potion of Lesser Healing (Heal 4 HP) = 80 gp *****

Total spent = 796 gp

Balance = 386 gp

Investments – I have investments, so this is mandatory.

Roll 06 – Bugger. That’s a loss. Each share I have is reduced by 3/5 (1 Share = 5 pips.) My 2 Trade shares are reduced to 4 pips (worth 80 gp)

Still, I decided to invest in a Finance share (300 gp) leaving me with 86 gp to carry.******

Next Quest – Enter the Dungeon and loot three armour from the monsters there [S: +8 gp][F: ½ gp]

==============

GM Notes

* d100 Dungeon doesn’t have a Naming Table for dungeons and Quests so I just used one out of 4AD.

** One of the things I really like – EVERYTHING has to be paid for (repairs to armour, new kit, healing etc.) I’m looking to port some of this over to Hostile.

*** Famous last words

**** If you are out of oil then you take -20 to all Primary Stats in the dark. Not good, and the Time Track dictates when you burn oil.

***** You can buy a maximum of 20 + REP items

****** There is a logic behind this. Early Quests, if you fail then you lose 50% of your carried gp.

D100 Dungeon Part 2

Part 2

I ran into some more giant ants but they tried to escape, I blocked them (as I want the parts); in return the bastards bit me in the head! Ouch. The mail coif absorbed some damage but was damaged itself. I took out several ants but got bitten in the head again! The coif was destroyed – damaged beyond repair. Managed to get some ant brains and so complete the quest. *

City of Knight’s Hold

In between Quests you do a series of actions titled Before Your Next Quest. Two of these are mandatory, the rest are optional and can be done in any order. **

1 – (Mandatory). Refresh certain tracks. Lose all keys and levers (they only work for one dungeon) and reset time track. Disease and Poison remain.

Succeed in Quest +50 gp +100 gp off Combat sheet = 150 gp. Sell parts for 45gp = 195gp ***

Heal 3 points – 60gp. (15/20)

Look for a better weapon (I have a REP of 1 so I get to roll once on the Weapons table.)  I can’t afford to buy it.

Investment – I don’t have anywhere to store my 135gp so I Invest 100gp in Trade (= 1 Share.) That leaves me 35 gp to carry.

QUEST 2

Enc -30 [S: +50gp][F:-1/2gp]

Loot 3 weapons from monsters

Giant Rats – Took them out but I was badly bitten on the back, despite my leather cloak. I searched the area and found a skeleton with a bag of gemstones (1120 gp) ****

Exploring on, I was jumped by a pack of Giant Rats, again I was bitten on the back  and took damage. Got some Giant Rat legs as Parts.

Special (Blue area) – no special purpose in this Quest but a search turned up a Studded Leather Belt [Waist A1 94/19 gp – 1 pip damage]

Blundered into a mass of sticky webs and attacked by the Spider Queen! The webs were hard to escape from and the Spider Queen kept attacking.

This did not go well for me – I died and had to spend a LIFE POINT to resurrect. Even so, I nearly died again and it was only that the Queen decided to escape  (no idea why and I wasn’t arguing!)

I decided to FAIL and returned to Knight’s Hold. I lost half my gold (so I have 17 gp)

Sell items (gems and parts, 1163 gp) Heal 9 pts (180 gp)

Balance = 983 gp

Market – looking for a weapon (Rep 1, get one roll) – Knife. No good, worse than the club (but maybe I should have bought it as a spare weapon) ****

2 x Lesser Healing (160 gp) [823 gp]

Investments – Roll 85, I have gained 1 share in Trade and I buy another one for 100 gp. I have Rep 1 so can only buy one.

Balance = 723 gp. I don’t have anywhere to leave this (yet) so I have to carry it.

Quest 2

Go into the dungeon and LOOT 3 weapons from monsters.

To be continued

GM Notes

* As soon as a Quest objectives are met then you “teleport” out of the dungeon and back to safety.

** Don’t gloss over this Phase – it is vital!

*** You only get ONE Part per encounter, regardless of how many creatures you fought in the pack. This was confirmed by Martin Knight.

**** I should have retreated at this point; I would have lost 18 gp but kept all items. But – I didn’t.

**** I’m still learning! I really can’t rate this Game highly enough. Back in the 80’s I spent ages devising a solo dungeon system – it worked but I was forever revising it. This Game does everything I wanted to do and more (and there is stuff in the other books I haven’t even looked at yet!) The hundreds of hours that must have gone into writing all of this I can only imagine. Highly recommended.
